Thales’ Q-Rail Projects Get Steam with MPH Workforce Solutions
Thales is a world leader in critical communication systems with global presence in the Aerospace, Space, Defence, Security and Transportation industries, providing tools and solutions to perform critical tasks in safety.
As a pioneer and leading supplier of transportation technology, its specialized systems, solutions, equipment and services for mobility on railways are use in global projects. In Qatar, Thales has been contracted to work on two major railway signaling projects namely the Doha Metro and the Lusail Light Rail Transit (LRT). The LRT network will consist of four main tram lines that span 33.1km. Along with Doha Metro and the Long Distance Passenger and Freight Rail transportation system it is part of Qatar's $30bn integrated transportation system.
The challenge was to mobilize a team of highly skilled Engineers and Technicians to the site within two weeks for each consultant; such a deployment may not sound difficult. However, Thales is a sub-contractor of a larger consortium that is working for Qatar Railways Company (Q-Rail). The consortium includes Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Kinki, Sharyo for Lusail LRT and Alstom and Vinci for Doha Metro. The layered processes and approvals ensure that the end client’s entire requirements are met and on-time project delivery was among the key deliverables MPH had to consider.
MPH was tasked to provide a full team package for Building Information Modeling (BIM) Experts and Computer-aided Design (CAD) drafters. The work package included recruitment, relocation services, organizing health and medical benefits. In Qatar since 2001, the MPH team has two specialized Public Relations Officers highly experienced in bringing in skilled and engineering workforce for both short-term and permanent assignments. Knowing the rules and regulations fully helps in expediting processes with the support of a team of logistics, contracts and administration coordinators. Everything moves like clock-work and all tasks such as ticketing, airport transfers, contracts, short-term and long-term housing are taken care of, with a result that each consultant was mobilized in the two-week time frame.
This project is ongoing and is expected to mobilize more than 20 consultants at both the projects for Thales. MPH has partnered with Thales over decades in many other markets but this project has strengthened its working partnership in the GCC region, increasing its footprint in other similar projects with the client. Q-Rail’s project is being executed in phases: the tramway will be completed before the FIFA 2022 World Cup; and will continue until 2026 when the final phase is completed. With superior feedback from Thales, we anticipate that MPH will be in the long haul to provide the best talent in the business, making this a win-win situation.
