Dubai Metro extension project

Dubai Metro extension project

Context and challenges

This project is related to the worldwide event Expo 2020 happening in Dubai. The new section of the metro will connect the main Dubai Metro line to the exhibition site, departing from Dubai Investment Park and reaching the Dubai Metro red line. This project will improve transportation for visitors to the Expo 2020 event site. It will also give commuters easy access to the rest of the metro lines connected to the city's other main attractions.
This new section consists of seven stations; four elevated and three underground. Five stations are already fully operating, with the last two expected to be in operation for October 2021, ready for the inauguration of Expo 2020. Following its postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the new start date at the end of 2021 will allow organisers to adapt to the new guidelines and restrictions.

Given that unexpected context, the client needed to adjust the project's schedule and hold staff mobilised on site for a period of time. The pandemic delayed operations and the completion of the 7 stations, and MPH supported the client during all the project phases, especially during the most critical times when the consultants' teams couldn't reach the site.
As a top-quality service provider, our team is very proud to support a client leading a project which is part of Expo 2020 and will participate in the international outreach of the UAE. Project Scope

MPH provides contract hire for all the consultants mobilised for the project:
- The client provided candidates to MPH and trusted us to execute full support in recruitment services.
- We sourced most of the candidates, and the rest of the workforce was provided by the contractor.
- We took care of the visa process, payroll services, contract administration, different travel arrangements, logistic support, insurance, hotel accommodation, etc.

The team of consultants included a wide range of: HIS officers, technicians, installation supervisors, testing and commissioning technicians, and plant engineers from Asia (India, Philippines, and Malaysia).
After the consultants' demobilisation according to the project phases, we support them in relocating for a new project with a new contractor (such as those recently relocated to Doha, for instance. We keep all the consultants' profiles in our database for the next projects as priorities.

Client benefits

- The client accomplished an outstanding achievement following an unexpected schedule for the expo 2020 given the circumstances
- MPH was able to keep all the staff mobilised and ready even during the lockdown and the different periods with restricted moves to the construction site.
- People were able to go back during the pandemic thanks to MPH supporting them. When difficulties arose, we were able to provide a replacement for consultants who couldn’t come back or were affected by the situation.
- We provided full, 360° support, allowing contractors to keep their focus on the project.
- Our teams were able to visit our consultants on-site from time to time, thanks to the MPH office in Dubai.
